I have participated in races for them.
Did you know that some of the top risk factors for breast cancer are ones that we can control? Weight, diet, and exercise are things we can adjust.
Briefly I want to share my small success in September. I know I haven't mentioned weight loss in a while, especially since my post about it in April. But last month, I lost 9 pounds after being inspired by a friend. I hope to continue with this trend, and Kim and I have started walking in the mornings again, usually two miles each time!
I am working on the risk factors I can control.
So in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, I want to give away something PINK to one of my readers.

It is a pink cutting board and knife set (as shown in picture above) from Pampered Chef.

Winner will be announced Friday, October 8th.
Be sure to do your Breast Self Exams (BSE) once a month, and find a friend to remind each other! It was because of a BSE that I found a lump last spring. I went through exams, ultrasounds, and a biopsy. All of which can be scary. My results came back, and there were no "bad cells" detected.
I hope this month you will read articles on breast cancer prevention and find information that you may have not known!
Love you girls!

There is a woman at my church who is in her mid 30s. She has breast cancer and is just out of chemo for the first time. I am not sure how she is doing on the inside healthy wise, but out the outside... she is strong. She shaved her head preemptively and her husband and son did, too. That is neat, isn't it? Her name is Debi and she has the courage of a survivor.

Breast cancer awareness is WAY near and dear to my heart. I lost my sister on 9/20/09 to breast cancer. She was 34 years old. I also lost my aunt to it in 1998. I'm petrified of getting it myself. So much so that I'm considering getting rid of the twins as a preventative measure.
ReplyDeleteNURSING is thought to reduce a woman's risk of breast cancer. You better believe I nursed both of my babies (for two years each, ha!)! Sure, it was for them...but it was for me too!
I'm already a follower!
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother has had breast cancer twice and is currently cancer-free, praise the Lord!
ReplyDeletegood for you for speaking about such a worthy cause. 4 years ago (geez has it been that long?) My bff's grandmother passed away from breast cancer so we entered in the 60 km walk for the cure. It was really hard to raise the two grand to enter but it was well worth it. One day I'll do it again, but until then I'll happily support people who are.
