My sister writes the winter guard shows for her high school and middle school groups. I always love when she shares her song choices and uniform choices with me because I love her taste and love being asked, "So, what do you think?!" She knows far more than I do about it, but it's still sweet that she asks!
This year her song selection for her middle school group is Breakfast at Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something. At first she was going to do the original version, but since the first time we talked it's been changed to an instrumental version - which I love, too!
The funny thing is, that song really takes me back to my freshman and sophomore years of high school! I can just close my eyes and see myself in the hallways. I can see who I was with and what I looked like. I can see myself sitting in my classes, going to after school practices, and hanging out with friends.
But the sad thing is, when Sonja played the song for the girls, none of them knew it! Can you believe that?! :) When she told me, I realized that all of them hadn't even been born yet when that song came out. Which, of course, makes me feel OLD!
And that's ok. I still love that song. It feels like a part of my history.
Which song takes you back?

The song, "Sarah." I can picture my birthday party (late elementary?) at Pizza Hut. My friends around the table--and this was when Pizza Hut had the push button song selection for a quarter! LOL! Someone chose that song from the machine and they all broke out in chorus, much to my embarrassment!
"Footloose" reminds me of our vacation to KY with my aunt, uncle and cousin. We had a conversion van, had the back seat laid into a bed and the three of us kids bounced around singing that song (several times) all the way there...Oh, the memories!
I know what you mean. Since I've had my daughter, I often think about how I have to expose her to all of my favorite songs from growing up. My mom used to play records for me when I was young and I still remember all the words. It's a great memory.
I love Breakfast at Tiffany's. It's one of those catchy tunes that's just fun and happy. I'm trying to remember what year that came out. I know I was in my 20's.
Anyway, there are tons of songs that take me back. But, the song that has the same effect for me in taking me right back to high school is 'Here I Go Again' by Whitesnake. (It was the 80's ya know).
I wasn't a Whitesnake fan by a long shot. But, I had a study hall that was in the cafeteria. And, for some reason we had a jukebox in there too. All the 'heads' (short for motorheads I guess. There were 2 main groups at that time...the heads and the preps (preppies). I didn't fit into either group)would congregate around the jukebox. And, they must have played that song a million times.
For some reason there were always donuts for sale in the cafeteria. So, whenever I hear that song I think of sitting in my high school cafeteria for study hall eating donuts.
There ya go.
Oh Chrissy now you have me thinking. I think we are close to the same age but I can tell we ran around with different groups of peeps. I think Fishin in the Dark by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band or Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter take me back to high school, oh the memories!
No, we are actually using the original version for the MS show. Its the HS show that is an instrumental version of a song.
So, you will probably like the MS show even more.
YAY!!! ;)
