A Running Milestone

I need to give another shout out to Kim this morning. If you ever get tired of hearing about our running...I'm sorry. But this is a big deal.

We hit a major milestone today at 6:30 am. We ran 1.5 miles non-stop. This is a huge deal for me, and I know it's a huge deal for her. I have not ran that much since my college days SBU. We used to have to run 1.5 miles in 15 minutes for SBU softball. Now, I am NO WHERE NEAR that time now, but just the fact that we have built up our endurance and are able to run that much...it's just amazing to me.

Now here's the kicker...that is the absolute MOST I have ever ran at one time...just 1.5 miles. We will keep working to get to our 5K which is about 3.2 miles. I know we can do it. I can't wait.

Truth be told (and I think she'd agree) I bet we could have kept going. There's just a feeling that kicks in when you're running...when you work past a certain "this sort of hurts" point...that I think we could just keep running! Like I told her this morning, it sort of reminds me of Forrest Gump when he said...

"That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd run to the end of town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd just run across Greenbow County. And I figured, since I run this far, maybe I'd just run across the great state of Alabama. And that's what I did. I ran clear across Alabama. For no particular reason I just kept on going. I ran clear to the ocean. And when I got there, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well turn around, just keep on going. When I got to another ocean, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well just turn back, keep right on going. "

So maybe next time we'll keep going. I doubt we'll run across the country, though. She sort of has to get read for work and all! :o)

If you would have told me 6 months ago that on March 1 I would have run 1.5 miles I would have laughed in your face. I am very proud of our accomplishment. I understand that everyone makes up the excuses why they can't exercise and I was one of them, but I am telling you this, if you can find 30 minutes in your day start running. And after doing it for 2 weeks you will be hooked. I am! When I got to work I was so energized, felt great and happy, more than normal that I felt like I could burst. I wish this feeling to everyone.
